Salary Range: Full-time - $38,000 to $45,000

Creative Programs Director - Position Summary:

We are looking to hire a professional with experience working in the field of aging or an arts educator with experience lifelong learning programs.  AAKC Creative Programs Director will focus on developing, implementing and overseeing a wide variety of creative aging programs onsite at a local community center.  In addition to robust onsite programming, the Creative Programs Director will explore strategies to expand the reach of the center with programming that radiates beyond its walls and positively impacts the surrounding community. 


The objective is to promote vital and creative aging, lifelong learning, community engagement, health and wellness and intergenerational exchange.   The community center will be a hub in the community with resources and original programs that celebrate the strengths of aging and demonstrate the importance of community engagement, lifelong learning, intergenerational exchange and creativity across the lifespan that supports health and wellness.



Preferred Qualifications  (experience, knowledge, skills and abilities):

  • BA in human services, social services or arts education

  • Experience working with diverse populations

  • High level of professionalism with energy, positivity and a team orientation

  • Caring and compassionate with a sincere desire to serve others and fulfill needs of participants

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong organizational skills

  • Flexibility and openness to change

  • Proficient computer skills / knowledgably about technology and applications such as excel and micro office

  • Embrace new approaches and discover fresh ideas to create high quality and meaningful programs

  • Ability to establish effective and authentic relationships with participants

  • Track record of building relationship with the goal of making a difference in people’s lives

  • Outgoing and dynamic personality - creative and resourceful

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Represent Arts & AGEing KC in the community at special events and meetings

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the growing field of creative aging   

  • Ensure a positive team orientation in working with all staff

  • Assist in setting up space at the center for AAKC’s satellite office and arts classes

  • Assist in all aspects of preparing for the center’s Grand Opening - Fall 2019

  • Seek out innovative ways to assist participants with transportation to the center

  • Develop professional relationships, work in close collaboration with community center staff

  • Handle all details related to scheduling arts programs and educational workshops

  • Provide coordination and direction in managing all aspects of daily life enrichment programming

  • Explore ways to design, develop and implement intergenerational programs

  • Promote programs and recruit participants /build relationships and connections with participants

  • Solicit ideas, input and suggestions from members to determine needs and interests

  • Document programming – conduct evaluates through surveys, interviews and feedback from participants

  • Seek out innovative ways to acquire supplies – ensure purchases and maintain arts supply inventory

  • Serve as a liaison with AAKC Artist Teaching Artist Collective, ensure necessary paperwork is completed, maintain ongoing communications and compile weekly reports

  • Coordinate special events/ culminating events – at the center and seek out opportunities for artwork to be exhibited and for performances to be showcased at different venues in the community

  • Make arrangements for community groups and organizations to lead specialty workshops onsite at BCLEC

  • Bring creative ideas that can be developed and implemented as part of a dynamic life enrichment program

  • Provide ongoing communications with members, participants, teaching artists and other AAKC staff

  • Assist with preparing weekly program reports to be submitted to AAKC Executive Director

  • Recruit, orient and support volunteer involvement internship opportunities at the center

  • Be attuned to issues and concerns as they relate to risk management - assist in implementing risk management strategies

  • Work closely with AAKC Executive Director – Artistic Director to assist with other duties as assigned
