Our programs provide meaningful arts experiences across the lifespan. Check out the programs below to see the many ways we engage people of all generations in the creative arts.
As you peruse our program offerings, we invite you to consider supporting our programs and services, and to volunteer as a teaching artist or program supporter.
Artful AGEing Partnerships
AAKC launched the Artful AGEing Partnerships project in 2016 with our Visual Arts Studio as a pilot. We have since worked with Arts KC and Phoenix Family, a nonprofit organization that provides social services for low-income senior housing communities in the Kansas City area.
If your group is interested in partnering with us, please contact us.
"The Arts & AGEing event was absolutely amazing!
I knew it would be a professional arts show, but it just blew away all expectations. There is no way our residents would be able to experience anything like this without your help."
Gladys Hanna, Phoenix Family Life Enrichment Coordinator
AAKC has been involved with the Mid-America Regional Council's age-inclusive movement for the past four years. AAKC has collaborated with all libraries in the Kansas City area, and other cultural institutions, to develop and expand the Generation Exchange program.
Now, as the steward of the Generation Exchange program, Arts & AGEing KC will lead the program's core activities — collecting and sharing oral histories between generations.
First-hand accounts of stories shared by one generation are recorded and archived by members of another generation. In the process, stories of history, culture, American and other societies, etc., are shared and preserved.
This treasure trove of storytelling is a key initiative in AAKC's commitment to intergenerational creative arts.
Performance arts have been part of our core offerings from the time of our founding. From puppetry programs, improv troupes, musical performances and plays and theatrical performances, Arts & AGEing KC has developed, designed and delivered hundreds of performances that benefit both young and old.
In addition to performing at community centers and senior living communities, we seek opportunities at high schools, cultural centers, youth camps and faith community centers to bring the benefits of artful aging to multiple generations and help our diverse communities embrace common languages in the creative arts.
One of AAKC's most notable signature performances is Dancing With Crows Feet. It's inspired by narratives of older women and focuses on aging from a female perspective. Find out more about this exciting project!

The visual arts have long been a key component of interactive programs for seniors. Arts & AGEing KC has elevated the visual arts to therapeutic stature and can help your group or organization design and implement visual arts programming to accomplish many objectives.
Creative writing is another core program of AAKC, and we conduct creative writing programming throughout the community.
Recent writing workshops have been conducted to empower and give voice to the experience of women surviving cancer, and for youth at summer camp programs designed for self-expression, poetry and other forms of writing.
